Accufit™
Accufit is an FDA-approved muscle activation therapy that uses controlled electrical stimulation to engage muscle fibers in a targeted, efficient manner — producing strength and tonal improvements in areas that are often resistant to change through exercise alone. The technology works by delivering precisely calibrated electrical impulses directly to the motor nerves, triggering deep, coordinated muscle contractions that replicate the physiologic demands of high-intensity training without the mechanical load or recovery time associated with it.
At our practice, Accufit is offered as a medically supervised, adjunctive treatment — not a replacement for an active lifestyle, but a meaningful extension of one. It is particularly well-suited to patients who are already physically active but have specific areas where muscle development or tonal improvement has plateaued, as well as patients in recovery or rehabilitation contexts where traditional exercise is limited. The most common treatment areas include the abdomen, glutes, thighs, and arms, with plans tailored conservatively to the patient's fitness baseline, health history, and long-term goals.
Each session is typically 30 to 45 minutes in length and requires no downtime — patients return to normal activity immediately following treatment. A course of four to six sessions is standard, spaced approximately one week apart, with improvements developing progressively as the muscle responds to repeated stimulation. Results are cumulative and are best maintained with ongoing physical activity and, where appropriate, periodic maintenance sessions.
Treatment is always introduced within the context of a broader health and wellness assessment. Dr. Martin evaluates each patient's overall physical health, activity level, and goals before recommending Accufit, ensuring the treatment is appropriate, well-timed, and integrated into a coherent plan rather than offered in isolation.
How is Accufit different from working out?
Accufit uses electrical stimulation to activate muscle fibers directly — bypassing the fatigue, joint load, and cardiovascular demand that come with conventional exercise. The contractions triggered by the device are deeper and more coordinated than most patients can produce voluntarily, which is what allows meaningful tonal and strength improvements in a single session. That said, Accufit isn't a substitute for an active lifestyle — at our practice, we position it as a complement to existing fitness habits, not a replacement for them. It's most effective for patients who are already engaged with their health and looking to address specific areas where progress has stalled.
What areas can be treated, and how do I know if it's right for me?
The most common treatment areas are the abdomen, glutes, thighs, and arms — areas where patients frequently report difficulty achieving tonal changes through exercise alone. Candidacy depends on overall health, fitness baseline, and specific goals, all of which Dr. Martin evaluates before recommending a treatment plan. Accufit is not appropriate for patients with certain implanted devices, active infections in the treatment area, or specific medical conditions — which is why a thorough assessment precedes any recommendation. At our practice, we make sure the treatment is appropriate for your specific situation before we begin.
How many sessions will I need, and when will I see results?
A standard course of four to six sessions spaced approximately one week apart is the typical starting point. Most patients begin noticing tonal improvements after two to three sessions, with more significant changes apparent at the conclusion of the full course and continuing to develop in the weeks that follow. Results are cumulative — meaning each session builds on the last — and are best maintained with consistent physical activity between and after treatments. At our practice, we assess your response session by session and adjust the plan accordingly rather than applying a fixed protocol to every patient.
Is the treatment painful, and is there any downtime?
Most patients describe the sensation as an intense but tolerable muscle contraction — similar to what you'd feel during a demanding workout, without the fatigue or joint stress. Intensity is fully adjustable and is calibrated to each patient's comfort level, particularly during early sessions as the muscle adapts to the stimulation. There is no downtime — patients return to normal activity immediately after treatment. Some mild muscle soreness in the 24 to 48 hours following a session is normal and is a sign that the muscle has been effectively engaged. At our practice, we go through what to expect before your first session so there are no surprises.
